Avondhu Children's Hunt
We joined forces with the Avondhu Hunt on Sunday 7th November, 2010 for a fantastic day out.
The day was made possible by the support and hardwork of Brian Hannon, Huntsmaster of the Avondhu Hunt, who was a former member of the Avondhu Pony Club. We met Brian Hannon, Huntsmaster and pack of hounds at Ballyhooly bridge and were taken under their wing for the day.
The real thrill was the sight of watching the Huntsmaster and his hounds at work, and his experience and local knowledge of the area was very evident. The field were under the control and instruction of John Hannon, Field Master (also a past member of the Avondhu Pony Club)… and where he went the eagar mounted followers went. His Instructions were cheerfully obeyed and they enjoyed access to large areas of the Ballyhooly woods.
To be invited to join the Avondhu Hunt for the day was a great privilege and we are very grateful for the Huntsmaster trying to unify the Avondhu Pony Club and allowing us to stay close. It was a great education for both mounted and foot followers and we now know how a hunt is conducted. It was great to see our DC, Mike Madden, out as one of the mounted followers.
