Avondhu Hunt Branch of the Irish Pony was founded in 1971. The Branch is located in north Cork and attracts members from Cork, as well as its bordering counties Waterford, Tipperary and Limerick.

Avondhu Hunt Pony Club is affiliated to the Irish Pony Club and is one of approximately sixty branches throughout the country. While total membership of the Irish Pony is in excess of 4000, the Avondhu Branch has a membership of over 30 and growing.

Members enjoy a range of equestrian activities, including, rallies, camp, hunting, showjumping, eventing, dressage, games, minimus, tetrathlon, treks, etc, under the ethos of the Irish Pony Club.

The objectives of the Pony Club are:

  • To encourage young people to ride and to learn to enjoy all kinds of sport connected with horses and riding.
  • To provide instruction in riding and horsemanship and to instill in members the proper care of their animals,
  • To promote the highest ideals of sportsmanship, citizenship and loyalty thereby cultivating strength of character and self discipline.


Pony Club membership is open to girls and boys up to 23 years of age.

Ordinary membership for those who have not attained 18 years of age.

Associate membership for 18 to 21 years.

Senior Associate membership for 21 to 23 years.
